I-DIEM HERricane Camp Boone County

What is HERricane?

In partnership with the Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management (I-DIEM), the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will be hosting a FREE 5-day camp for young women interested in a career in emergency management! Campers will learn about disaster preparedness, develop leadership skills, and meet female leaders in government from local, state, and federal agencies.

What Can You Expect?

This 5-day camp will feature a full schedule packed with exciting activities, games, and guest speakers. Each day will follow a theme that will set the tone for the day, including:

  • An introduction to Emergency Management
  • Communication and Leadership
  • Understanding Weather and Climate
  • Building Resilience
  • Bringing it All Together and Career Exploration

You will also get to tour some great facilities around the county, and learn to provide Basic Life Support (CPR).

And (really good) food will be provided!

Important Dates

August 5th - 9th: HERricane Boone County held at the Emergency Communications Center located at 2145 County Drive, Columbia, MO 65202.

July 28th (Application Extended): Submit HERricane application by 11:59 p.m.

Eligibility

High school aged young women (in the 2024-2025 academic school year) who reside in Boone County.
