Interstate

If one parent does not reside in the State of Missouri and Missouri jurisdiction cannot be established over the out-of-state parent, an action may be filed using the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA).

Paternity and Child/Medical support orders can be established and enforced through UIFSA.

Procedures

When the referral is received from Family Support Division (FSD), the Missouri parent will be contacted by the Child Support Unit to schedule an appointment to complete necessary paperwork. The paperwork will then be sent to the state where the other parent resides. The other state will take the necessary legal action. This office will monitor the progress of the case by sending and receiving information from the other state.

Once a judgment is obtained from the other state, the referral is closed and the case is returned to FSD.
