Bonne Femme Watershed Project Hosting Monitoring Blitz, Seeking Citizen Volunteers

March 8, 2021 - The Bonne Femme Watershed Project is hosting a monitoring blitz on March 20th from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Catch aquatic animals, conduct chemical tests for water quality, and check on stream health as part of an ongoing citizen science project for the Bonne Femme Watershed. No prior training is necessary. New volunteers will be placed on small teams with experienced Stream Team volunteers.

A free sack lunch will be provided afterward. Please wear a mask, bring something to drink, and wear shoes that you can wear in a stream. Event will begin at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park Devil’s Icebox Parking lot, 5901 South Highway 163, Columbia, MO.

Due to COVID-19, we need everyone to register by March 18th.
Register at https://forms.gle/hXokPH3xpRygCJxg7 , by e-mail stormwater@boonecountymo.org, or calling (573) 886-4330.

The Greater Bonne Femme Watershed encompasses an area from south Columbia to north Ashland to the Missouri River. It is home to many notable features, including Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Three Creeks Conservation Area, streams, and caves. Six stream segments within the watershed have impaired water quality. The Bonne Femme Watershed’s mission is to improve water quality, prevent further water resource deterioration, and engage Boone County citizens in conserving our natural resources.

This stream monitoring blitz is held each spring and fall and is co-sponsored by Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Boone County Stormwater Management and Missouri Stream Teams.
