Some voters rerouted to new polling stations due to bridge construction

COLUMBIA, MARCH 30, 2011 — Because of bridge construction on Route WW, about 1,400 Boone County voters are being rerouted from the polling place originally assigned for the upcoming April 5 election.  According to Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren, voters involved in the polling place reassignment are in precincts 25 and 34 who were originally assigned to the American Legion on Route WW and who live east of the closed bridge.

About 1,100 of the reassigned voters will now go to Lenoir Community Center, 1 Hourigan Dr. in Columbia, which is accessible by traveling south from WW on Rolling Hills Rd., then west on New Haven Rd., south on Lenoir St. then east on Hourigan Dr.

About 300 reassigned voters from precinct 25 will now vote at Prairie Grove Baptist Church, 860 N. East Park Lane. This polling station can be reach by taking Route WW to S. Olivet Rd. Drive north on S. Olivet Rd., then east on E. Richland Rd. Drive north on Broadview St., east on E. Southern Dr., then north on N. East Park Lane.

Approximately 100 voters in precinct 34 who live west of the closed bridge or who have access to the American Legion Hall on Route WW from E. Richland Rd. are not being reassigned.

The County Clerk’s office  mailed notices of the revised polling places on Monday, March 28. E-mail notices were also sent to voters who have an e-mail address on file. This is a revision to the polling place and sample ballot originally mailed last week.

This change impacting voters previously assigned to the American Legion Hall on Route WW is in addition to other poll location changes made for this election. Over 35,000 voters are now assigned to a polling place  that is  different from the location assigned in November 2010 election.  The number of polling places used this election is reduced due to the anticipated lower turnout that is typical for an April election.

All Boone County voters are sent a notice each election with their polling place assignment and their sample ballot.  Voters who fail to check this notice for a new poll assignment could end up at a wrong polling place on Election Day.

Voters who did not receive the sample ballot  notice need to check and, if necessary, update the voter registration address before they go to the polls on Tuesday, April 5.   Voters may check their address or poll assignment on the Boone County website at www.showmeboone.com/clerk or by calling 573-886-4375.
