Community Agency Offers Services for People with Disabilities: On Tuesday, the Boone County Commission met with representatives from Services for Independent Living (SIL). The non-profit group is meeting with officials in all of the counties it serves including, Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cooper, Howard, Montgomery and Randolph, to assess their needs. SIL provides advocacy, independent living skills training, information, and referral and peer support to empower people with disabilities. Commissioner Honored for Community Leadership: On Wednesday, The Columbia Chamber of Conmmerce presented Southern Boone County Commissioner Karen M. Miller with the 2010 Debin Benish Oustanding Businesswoman Award at the Annual Chamber Meeting and Award Banquet. The award is given to a woman who exhibits leadership in supporting small business, has a record of volunteering in the community, is a mentor to other business women, owns (or is employed by) a Chamber-member business and is a Women's Network member. Miller also received a $1,000 grant from Women’s Network and Delta Systems Group.
County Administrator Completes Training: Boone County Public Administrator Cathy Richards has been certified for having completed 20 hours of training as per required in Senate Bill 601. The annual training took place at the State Convention of the Missouri Association of Public Administrators in Hannibal, Mo.
Hospital Board Interviews: On Friday, June 11, the Boone County Commission and members of the Boone Hospital Board of Trustees will interview the three finalists for the board's open seat. The finalists are Senior Vice-President of Commercial Lending at Commerce Bank Joseph R. Miller, Chariman and CEO of Columbia Insurance Group Robert J. Wagner and retired neurologist Quinton M. Ditmore.
West Central Commissioners Quarterly Meeting: The Boone County Commission will attend the West Central Commissioners Quarterly Meeting Tuesday, June 8 in Osceola, Mo. For more information on the regional commissioners associations go to www.mocommissioners.com/regionassoc.html.
Planning and Zoning Work Session: The quarterly P&Z work session will be held Thursday, June 10 at 4:30 p.m. in the Roger B. Wilson Government Center, Commission Chambers, 801 E. Walnut, Columbia, Mo.
