Commissioner Nominated for Leadership Award: On Wednesday, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce named Southern District Commissioner Karen M. Miller as one of three finalist for the 2010 ATHENA Award.
Women's Network awarded the first ATHENA Award in Columbia, Mo. in 1995. Since then, the ATHENA committee has annually honored a business leader from the community at the ATHENA luncheon. The ATHENA Award program seeks to inspire others to achieve excellence in their professional and personal lives.
Sheriff's Department Raises Money for Special Olympics: The Boone County Sheriff's Department along with the Columbia Police Department and the University of Missouri Police Department participated in the 16th annual Tip-A-Cop event at Red Lobster (1716 Interstate 70 Drive Southwest, Columbia, Mo., 65203) April 8. Local law enforcement officials were present at the restaurant during the lunch and evening hours. They interacted with the patrons and spread awareness of the wonderful work Special Olympics is doing for the 15,000+ athletes in Missouri. There will be another Tip-A-Cop event at Red Lobster April 15. All "tips" or donations go directly to Special Olympics.
Retired County Treasurer Reflects on Time in Office: Former Boone County Treasurer Kay Murray, who retired February 28, wrote an editorial piece for the April 2 edition of the Columbia Business Times.
