Boone County Bicentennial Committee Releases "Treasures of Boone County" Mural Video

November 2, 2020 – The Boone County Bicentennial Committee is pleased to share the latest virtual celebration of the history of Boone County—the video “Treasures of Boone County.” It can be watched from the Boone County Bicentennial Celebration website at or at

This video highlights the creation of “Treasures of Boone County,” a mural created by local artist and educator Stacy Self (WildysWorld) with collaboration from citizens across Boone County. The mural is like a large puzzle, its eight pieces representing distinct geographic sections of Boone County. Together, the pieces form the shape of Boone County and depict 200 years of diverse and colorful history.

Meetings were held throughout the county to learn what is important and unique about each community, directly from its members. Based on this input, Self designed the artwork so that people from each community could paint their own portion of the mural. Upon completion, the pieces were hung together to form the “Treasures of Boone County” mural, currently on display in the Boone County History & Culture Center.

While the mural has been on display since March 2020, health and safety concerns may have precluded many Boone Countians from seeing the mural. This made it even more important that the Bicentennial Committee capture “Treasures of Boone County” in a format everyone can enjoy safely. At the close of the Bicentennial Year, the pieces will be given to the communities that created them, where they will be displayed for posterity.

Posters and stickers of the “Treasures of Boone County” mural are available for purchase with proceeds benefitting a COVID artists relief fund. For more information, email

This video is part of a series being released throughout the rest of 2020 as Boone County continues to celebrate 200 years. For more information about Boone County’s Bicentennial Celebration, please visit
