4-H Learns About County Government: On Tuesday, a group of Boone County 4-H'ers toured Boone County Government departments and offices on an MU Extension sponsored trip. The students talked to elected officials and attended a County Commission meeting.

Commission Gets 2009 Fiscal Update: On Wednesday, the Boone County Commissioners met with County Auditor June Pitchford for a recap of the 2009 fiscal year. Pitchford stated that fiscal year 2009 was better than projected due to substantial savings on contracts with the City of Columbia and collective efforts of county officials and department directors to reduce spending and contain costs. Actual revenue in the general fund fell short of budget by three percent (but was right in line with the revised projects developed in fall of '09) and sales tax revenues for the general fund declined by 2.76 percent, slightly better than the County's revised projection of negative three percent.

County Gears Up for Preventative Road Maintenance: The Boone County Public Works Department will begin preventative maintenance on some of the County’s more than 200 miles of asphalt roadways this month.  The annual preventative maintenance is a major component of a larger pavement preservation strategy that the County implemented several years ago.  Pavement preservation is a cost-effective set of practices that extend pavement life and improve safety and motorist satisfaction while saving public tax dollars (Read More).


Government Center Closed: The Boone County Government Center will be closed Friday, May 7 in honor of Truman Day. The Government Center will reopen Monday, May 10.

City/County/CPS meeting: The Boone County Commission will meet with City of Columbia Manager Bill Watkins and Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Chris Belcher Monday, May 10 at 9 a.m. in room 220 of the Roger B. Wilson Goverment Center, 801 E. Walnut. Read the agenda here.

East Area Plan Public Meeting: The City of Columbia and Boone County Planning and Zoning Commissions will host a joint meeting regarding the East Area Plan (EAP), formerly called the East Columbia Area Plan (ECAP), on May 25, 2010, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Columbia Benevolent Organization’s Meeting Hall located inside the Elk’s Lodge, 4747 Elk Park Drive East (east of Cedar Grove Elementary School off State Route WW).
