Georgian Delegation Visits Boone County: On Monday, Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson gave a tour of the Roger B. Wilson Government Center to a delegation from the Republic of Georgia as part of the Open World Program sponsored by the City of Columbia. The delegation met Boone County's elected officials and learned about the work of the different County offices. During the day, County Auditor June Pitchford was a panelist for a session on public finance. The visit was part of the Open World Program that is sponsored by the City of Columbia Public Communications Office. The delegation visited Columbia, Boone County and Jefferson City during their trip. Columbia and Kutaisi, Georgia have been sister cities since 1997.
November Declared Homeless Youth Awareness Month: On Tuesday, the Boone County Commission declared November to be Homeless Youth Awareness Month with a proclamation to Sol House, a service of Rainbow House, at the Daniel Boone Regional Library. Last year, the National Runaway Switchboard received 2,562 calls in Missouri from homeless/runaway youth, and 230 of those calls were within the (573) area code. Every month, Rainbow House is contacted by at least ten local youth who have been abused or kicked out of their home. The Commission encourages citizen's to strive to protect Boone County's youth and make every effort to empower young people to make healthy choices and become productive members of our community.
Tuesday, November 17: Bids for the Thomas Hill Road Bridge project will be opened at 9:30 a.m. in the Commission Chambers during the regular Tuesday Commission meeting.
Wednesday, November 18: Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson will be on KFRU's Morning Meeting show at 9 a.m. to discuss the latest County news and take questions from callers.
Thursday, November 19: Staff from Boone County and the City of Columbia and Assistant Chief of Staff to Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer, Gary Marble, will meet to discuss about the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) preliminary flood maps.
