Free Event Educates Families on Clean Streams, Local Wildlife

Columbia, MO (June 10, 2009)—

What: On June 17, Boone County Public Works, the City of Columbia Public Works and Columbia Parks and Recreation will host the Stream Extravaganza at Flat Branch Park. The free event is part of Family Fun Fest. Activities include face painting, a bounce house, balloon animals and live music. Other displays include the MU College of Veterinary Medicine’s Raptor Rehabilitation Project. The Missouri Department of Conservation will showcase fresh water mussels and tattle tale bugs, a stream table, a fishing game and information on native plants of Missouri. Columbia Power and Light crews will have the equipment on hand so visitors can drive a remote camera through the storm drain pipe.

Why: The Stream Extravaganza is a way to raise community awareness about stormwater issues.
