Boone County Commissioners Justin Aldred and Janet Thompson Reappointed to National Committees

August 3, 2022 –On August 2, 2022, Boone County Commissioner Justin Aldred was reappointed to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Veterans and Military Services Committee and the Telecommunications & Technology Policy Steering Committee. Also, on August 2, 2022, Boone County Commissioner Janet Thompson was reappointed to the NACo Healthy Counties Advisory Board and to the Justice and Public Safety (JPS) Steering Committee as the Vice Chair. Justin has served on both the Veterans and Military Services Committee and the Telecommunications & Technology Policy Steering Committee for one year. Janet has served on the JPS Steering Committee for seven years and on the Healthy Counties Advisory Board for three years.

NACo’s Veterans and Military Services Committee engages NACo and its members to develop and highlight county best practices and policies to promote innovative programs, services and benefits for our nation’s military, veterans and their families.

NACo’s Telecommunicatoins and Technology Policy Steering Committee is focused on all matters pertaining to telecommunications and technology policy, including, but not limited to, the county role as a telecommunications regulator, service provider, and consumer, cable services technology and implementation, information technology development and implementation, information technology innovation, e-governance, and geo-spatial data collection and utilization.

NACo’s Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee has jurisdiction over the organization’s policies on all matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems, including ​criminal justice planning, law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security, community crime prevention, juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, emergency management, fire prevention and control, and civil disturbances. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

NACo’s Healthy Communities Initiative is focused on public-private partnerships in local health delivery; access to, and coordination of, care for vulnerable populations in the community, including through health services in hospitals, community health centers and county jails, while concentrating on cost-containment strategies; and community public health and behavioral health programs. The Healthy Communities Advisory Board, comprised of county leaders who are health advocates and corporate partners, identifies priorities and ensures that other county leaders receive timely information to make appropriate health decisions for their counties.
