Training Available for Local Nonprofits

April 27, 2022 – The Boone County Community Services Department (BCCSD) is hosting training sessions for local organizations to learn how to apply for funding from the Boone County Children’s Services Fund.

Boone County will soon be releasing a request for proposal (RFP) through the Children’s Services Fund (CSF). Voters approved the Children’s Services Fund quarter-cent sales tax in 2012 and has since contracted out $46.9 million to purchase services for Boone County children, youth, and their families. In 2021, the Boone County Children’s Services Board, which makes funding decisions about the Children’s Services Fund, released an equity statement which focuses on ensuring equitable and fair stewardship of resources which have the greatest impact on the lives of children and families within Boone County.

The Boone County Community Services Department hopes to increase access to funding for all organizations providing critical services in Boone County. The BCCSD will host training sessions for interested parties to learn how to apply for funding and how to navigate the funding management system. While the training sessions are open to all nonprofits or governmental entities, smaller nonprofits and those with leaders of color are encouraged to attend.

“We are wanting to expand access to funding to smaller and minority-led nonprofit organizations who may not have experienced this RFP process before,” says Joanne Nelson, Director of the BCCSD. “By hosting training sessions, we hope to help nonprofit organizations understand the nuances of applying for funding through the Boone County process.”

The training sessions will be held with an option of attending in-person or virtually. If organizations choose to attend in-person, the session will be held at the Boone County Government Center in Conference Room 301. To attend virtually, organizations can reach out to the BCCSD for registration information at communityservices@boonecountymo.org or call (573) 886-4298. Training dates are Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 4:00pm-5:00pm and Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 12:00pm-1:00pm.

Information and resources for funding can be located on the Boone County Community Services Department website at www.showmeboone.com/community-services.
