Boone County Commissioner Justin Aldred Appointed to NACo Veterans and Military Services Committee
March 4, 2022 –Boone County District I Commissioner Justin Aldred has been appointed to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Veterans and Military Services Committee. Members and leadership of the Veterans Committee are appointed by NACo President, Larry Johnson.
According to NACo’s website, “The Veterans and Military Service Committee engages NACo and its members to develop and highlight county best practices and policies to promote innovative programs, services and benefits for our nation’s military, veterans and their families.” This committee covers a range of issues related to serving veterans, not only on the federal level, but on the local level as well. Recently, committee conversations have focused on authorizing federal resources for County Veterans Service Officers; legislative efforts to address toxic exposure among veterans; veteran mental health and suicide prevention; and supporting veteran and military caregivers. This spring, the committee also will focus on the military transition and how better coordination can be achieved so counties can perform better outreach to new veterans in their communities.
Having served in the U.S. Army, Commissioner Aldred feels a personal connection to his fellow service members and is honored to serve on this committee, which is dedicated to veterans.
