Les Wagner Earns 2022 Mel Carnahan Public Service Award

February 11, 2022 – Les Wagner, Chair of the Boone County Children’s Services Board, was recognized as one of the 2022 Mel Carnahan Public Service Award Winners in a ceremony last night, Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the Missouri State Historical Society.

“His leadership has created a strong foundation for the continued success and impact of the Children's Services Fund. Les has a storied history within Boone County and his advocacy for family choice in services has shaped many important initiatives within the community. Les is a true community champion. He has impacted so many systems with his career and volunteer efforts,” stated Joanne Nelson, Director of Boone County Community Services Department.

The Mel Carnahan Public Service Award goes to Missourians who have made significant contributions through their public service both paid and volunteer, in the government, education, nonprofit or legal sectors.  The selection committee chooses three honorees who have demonstrated both an extraordinary commitment to public service and significant achievements that have made a real difference for the community served.

Mr. Wagner has served, as a volunteer, as Chair of the Boone County Children’s Services Board since its inception in 2013. Professionally, he was the first Executive Director of Boone County Family Resources, a role he served in for 35 years. He then served as Executive Director of Missouri Association of County Developmental Disabilities Services from 2012 until his retirement in 2019.
