National Weather Service Skywarn Storm Spotter Training
February 19, 2020—The Boone County Office of Emergency Management in conjunction with the University of Missouri will be hosting the National Weather Service (NWS) St. Louis office on Thursday February 20, 2020 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Room 214 at Memorial Student Union located at 518 Hitt Street, Columbia, MO 65201 for the 2020 Storm Spotter Training.
This is the fourth year Boone County Office of Emergency Management has partnered with the NWS St. Louis to deliver the training. Through the training, citizens will learn to spot dangerous weather patterns to alert them to incoming severe weather, such as thunderstorms, lightning and tornadoes. Participants will also learn how they can enhance watches and warnings issued by the NWS St. Louis office by providing local real-time weather conditions. With this training, citizens are empowered with the knowledge to keep themselves, their families, and their communities safe during severe weather.
The training is free, and open to the public, although we do ask that participants be at least 16 years of age unless accompanied by an adult. Registration for the event is not required.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Elizabeth Thompson, at EThompson@boonecountymo.org or (573) 554-7900.
