Boone County CERT Coordinates Volunteer Day to Honor the Memory of Emergency Management Director Tom Hurley
August 7, 2019 – Boone County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) has coordinated a volunteer day at the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri on Thursday, August 8, 2019, to honor the memory of Emergency Management Director Tom Hurley, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at the age of 38.
Following Tom’s passing, Tom’s family expressed a desire to honor Tom’s memory with a contribution to the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. Boone County CERT had an interest in honoring this request by volunteering in Tom’s memory and reached out to the Food Bank to find a day it needed volunteers. Upon selecting a date, Boone County CERT reached out to the Boone County Commission as a means of sharing this opportunity with all Boone County employees.
On Thursday, August 8, between 1:00pm-4:00pm, 4:00pm-6:00pm, and 6:00-8:30pm, CERT members, County employees and other community members will help repackage donated food items as a way of honoring Tom’s memory and his dedication to serving the citizens of Boone County.
