Boone County GIS Manager Jason Warzinik Appointed to the National Geospatial Advisory Committee
February 24, 2014
Boone County is pleased to announce the appointment of GIS Manager Jason Warzinik to the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC). The advisory committee provides recommendations, reviews and comments on geospatial policy and management issues to the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), the interagency executive group responsible for providing leadership and direction to federal geospatial programs. It also provides a forum for conveying the views of non-federal representatives in the geospatial community. The NGAC includes up to 30 members, chosen to be a balanced representation of the varied interests associated with geospatial programs and technology. "I am deeply honored and humbled to have been selected as the sole County Government level representative on the Committee," Warzinik said. "I am looking forward to being able to represent and serve Boone County on the national level during one of the most exciting times in the history of the geospatial industry."
According to a press release distributed by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, "The NGAC has been a valuable resource and an excellent partner for the Federal geospatial community, and has provided excellent advice and recommendations on a wide range of critical geospatial policy and management issues. Effective and innovative use of geospatial information is essential for Federal agencies and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with this dynamic and accomplished set of leaders." NGAC members serve a three-year term, meeting three to four times per year.
Warzinik began his position as Boone County GIS Manager in 2003, working both as a senior staff member of the County Information Technology Department and a valuable resource to County Assessor Tom Schauwecker in the development of high quality GIS data, applications and maps. "Expectations are high in Boone County, Missouri," said Schauwecker. "Jason Warzinik has exceeded everyone's expectations for competent, state of the art GIS service. It is a privilege to serve with a competent young man like Jason." Jason has made many contributions to the field of Geographic Information Systems. He has made numerous presentations to other professionals in the field; he has authored several approved grant applications; and he has served on the Missouri GIS Advisory Council as well as the Missouri Homeland Security Region F GIS Group tasked to develop a Geospatial Data Sharing Memorandum of Agreement that enabled the sharing of critical public safety GIS layers between Counties in the region through a centrally hosted portal.
