Boone County welcomes public comment on renaming of Boone County Fairgrounds
March 16, 2012
The property currently known as the Boone County Fairgrounds is in need of a new name and the Boone County Commission is asking the public for their comments.
While the grounds will remain the home of the Boone County Fair, the multitude of other events happening there call for a name change. The Boone County Commission is proposing to rename the Boone County Fairgrounds to Central Missouri Event Center, Home of the Boone County Fair. The suggestion currently under consideration was proposed by Mike Teel & Brent Gibson, the owners of Tag Events, LLC, which is the current contracted manager of the Boone County Fairgrounds.
A public hearing will be held during the 9:30am Commission meeting on Tuesday, March 20 in Chambers at the Boone County Government Center. During this hearing, comments regarding the new name will be accepted. Comments from those unable to attend can also be sent to mhall@boonecountymo.org. A second public hearing will be held during the Commission's meeting on March 27, 2012 at 7:00pm, after which all comments will be considered and a decision will be announced.
The Boone County Commission is also currently working on developing a Request for Proposals for naming rights of the individual buildings at the Boone County Fairgrounds. The anticipated release date for this Request for Proposal is sometime in the next few months.
