Boone County Sheriff's Department Expands Programming at Local Schools
July 22, 2009
Harrisburg, Sturgeon, Hallsville to have full-time School Resource Officers
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is proud to announce that beginning with the 2009-2010 school year Harrisburg, Sturgeon, and Hallsville schools will each be staffed with a full-time School Resource Officer (SRO). As in the past, we will continue to teach the DARE program in these three schools. With the added time the Deputies will be able to spend in the schools, it will also allow them to broaden other programs that were not possible in previous school years.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department began teaching the DARE program in 1989 utilizing a small number of personnel who traveled to various schools. Since then, we have added School Resource Officers and assisted the schools with developing other various programs to support safety and security in schools.
By having a full-time SRO in the schools, it will allow the Sheriff’s Department not only to teach various programs, but to expand on the rapport they have with the children. The Sheriff’s Department is dedicated to continue educating Boone County youth with the decision making skills provided by the DARE program, while simultaneously maximizing our time spent with the students in the schools.
