Boone County Commission Accepting Applications for Appointment to the Columbia Food Council
COLUMBIA, Mo., (August 5, 2025) - The Boone County Commission is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as a Boone County representative on the Columbia Food Council.
Originally a nine-member board, the Food Council now has 11 members following the addition of two positions to be filled by individuals appointed by the Boone County Commission to represent the areas of Boone County outside of Columbia. According to the memo presented to City Council, "While all members have experience that may stretch beyond the City of Columbia, the Food Council feels that the addition of two county representatives will help to contribute to a more well-rounded council."
Initially, one of the County appointees will serve for one (1) year, and one County appointee will serve for two (2) years. Thereafter, board appointees will have 3-year terms. The Food Council meets monthly on the third Wednesday, 4:15-5:30 p.m. at the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Building, 1005 W. Worley.
The Food Council advises the City Council in matters pertaining to equitable and sustainable food systems; makes recommendations related to establishing an equitable and sustainable food system; identifies opportunities for and barriers to equitable implementations of food policies; and educates the public and promotes equitable food policies that positively impact the nutritional, economic, social, environmental, and human health of community residents and visitors. Individuals chosen to serve on the council demonstrate significant knowledge, interest, or expertise in equitable food systems and policies. The board strives to include a cross-section of members who have experience in education, health, food production, processing, distribution, retail, and/or waste.
To be considered for this appointment, interested parties must submit a board application. The application deadline is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025. Applications may be found at https://www.showmeboone.com/commission/boards/ or can be obtained in person at the Boone County Commission Office, located in room 333 of the Roger B.
