Boone County Stormwater Management Invites Public to Cover Crop Field Day

March 4, 2022 – The Missouri Soybean Association, in partnership with the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, University of Missouri Center for Regenerative Agriculture, and Boone County Stormwater Management, invite you to participate in a FREE cover crop field day at the Bay Farm Research Facility on Friday, March 18, 2022. Lunch will be provided. Registration opens at 8:30 AM and the program starts at 9:00 AM.

Presentations will be given by Doug Peterson, Rob Myers, and Bob Kremer. Doug is part of the Understanding Ag team, helping implement practices that restore soil health. Doug was an Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) employee for more than 32 years, starting as a soil scientist before moving on to become a state grassland and soil health specialist in the intervening years. He now operates his own 250- head cow/calf and contract grazing operation.

Rob Myers is Director of the MU Center for Regenerative Agriculture and adjunct faculty member with the MU Plant Sciences Division. His professional expertise encompasses sustainable and regenerative agriculture, soil health, conservation, and cropping system diversification. He has conducted research, education, and extension programs with many cover crops and alternative crops.

Bob Kremer is an adjunct professor of soil science with the MU Plant Sciences Division and the School of Natural Resources. He teaches classes on environmental soil microbiology, advanced weed science, and advanced sustainable agriculture. He retired in July 2014 from U.S. Department of Agriculture—Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) after serving as a research microbiologist for 32 years with the Cropping Systems and Water Quality research units in Columbia, MO.

Field demonstrations include a rainfall simulator, strip trials, cover crop demonstrations, and more. A farmer panel discussion with Missouri Leopold winners will also be held during lunch.
