Prescription Drug Take Back Results
October 27, 2019 - The Prescription Drug Take Back event held in Boone County October 25 & 26, 2019 resulted in the collection of 853 pounds of no longer wanted or needed medications. This is the fourth largest total collected locally since this event began in 2010. The highest collection was 972 pounds in October of 2017, followed by 895 pounds in April of 2016, and 887 pounds in April of this year.
There were 7 different collection sites spread throughout Boone County over the two-day local event which coincided with the DEA’s National Drug Take Back event. The results per collection site are as follows;
VA Hospital - 8 boxes/147 lbs
MU Student Center - 1 box/8 lbs
Ashland Police Dept - 3 boxes/44 lbs
Rock Bridge High School - 10 boxes/225 lbs
Hickman High School - 12 boxes/308 lbs
Hallsville PD - 2 boxes/43 lbs
Centralia PD - 4 boxes/68 lbs
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the Youth Community Coalition, and officers from the Ashland, Centralia, Columbia, Hallsville, University of Missouri, and Veteran’s Administration Police Departments for their partnership in this event. We would further like to thank the Columbia Public School District, the VA Hospital, the University of Missouri, and the cities of Ashland, Centralia, and Hallsville for allowing their facilities to be designated collection sites for this event.
All medications collected will be turned over to the DEA for proper disposal.
