Public Invited to Attend United Way Pie Auction by Boone County Government
October 10, 2012
Boone County Government employees are striving to reach a $15,000 goal this year in the annual United Way Fundraising Campaign. All members of the community are invited to get involved and "Live United" at the Annual United Way Raffle and Annual Pie Contest and Auction on Monday, October 22 at 12:00PM at the Columns in the Courthouse Plaza. The event will begin with the raffle drawing and the announcement of the Pie Contest winners. The bidding for pies will then commence, led by a professional auctioneer from Jacobs and Kemper Auction and Realty Services.
"We have a chance to make a measurable difference in Boone County by supporting United Way's mission of helping the most vulnerable in our community, and we can do that with the help of our great employees and community," said Boone County Treasurer Nicole Galloway, who is co-coordinating this year's campaign with Presiding Commissioner Dan Atwill. "Boone County sees the United Way as a great partner in providing essential services to thousands of people in our community. The generosity of Boone County employees and the community has been great - in 2011 we even had one pie go for $1,000."
The annual event has become a County favorite, with County employees baking and donating pies to be judged and auctioned. The Pie Contest judges will begin dutifully tasting delicious pies at 11:00AM and the first, second and third prize winners will be announced at 12:00PM. Winners will receive prizes generously donated from local businesses: first place winner will receive a $100 gift card to Shiloh Bar & Grill; second place winner will receive a $50 gift card to 44 Stone Public House; and third place will receive a $25 gift card to Bleu Restaurant & Wine Bar. Judging will be done by Billy Burnett from Lawn & Leisure, Mike Teel from Mid-City Lumber and TAG Events, and Local Businessman Bruce Wilson.
Also at 12:00PM will be the announcement of the raffle winner. Tiger John Cleek, local Aaron's franchise owner, has generously donated a 32" LCD flat screen TV to be auctioned. Raffle tickets are $5 a piece or six for $20 and can be purchased until 12:00PM on October 22 in County Treasurer Galloway's office, Room 205 of the Roger B. Wilson Government Center.
Once the winners have been announced, the bidding will begin. Community members are encouraged to attend and bid on pies created by and donated by Boone County Government employees. All proceeds will go to Heart of Missouri United Way. Bid winners can pay with cash or a check made out to United Way.
