Residents Invited to Help County Employees Reach $15,000 United Way Fundraising Goal
September 22, 2010
Boone County Government will sponsor a pie contest and auction, raffle and silent online auction, as part of the 2010 Boone County Employee United Way Campaign, Sept. 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Courthouse Square (801 E. Walnut, Columbia, Mo.). The goal of the campaign is to raise $15,000 for the Heart of Missouri United Way. Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Knight will serve as the campaign coordinator.
The pie contest will feature pies baked by Boone County employees. The pies will be judged for first, second and third place by Peggy Kirkpatrick, Executive Director of the Central Missouri Food Bank, local businessman Bruce Wilson and Bob Pugh, CEO of Missouri Book Services. Pete Kemper of Jacobs & Kemper Auction and Realty Company will handle the bids during the pie auction.
A Phillips 32” flat panel television donated by Tiger John Cleek will be raffled off at the event. Raffle tickets are $5 per chance or six tickets for $20. Eight prize packages donated by local businesses and Boone County elected officials are available through the silent auction including two weekend VIP “Whole Hog” passes to the 2010 Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival, a gift basket from Regis Hair Salon valued at more than $200, and a prime rib and seafood feast for four prepared and served by District I Commissioner Karen M. Miller. The winners of the silent auction items will be announced at the pie contest and auction at noon.
The Heart of Missouri United Way is an independent, nonprofit organization governed by a local board of directors made up of volunteers from mid-Missouri. Donations to the local United Way stay in the community and improve the lives of one in three Boone County residents. There are 31 agencies serving people from Boone, Cooper, Howard, Audrain, Callaway, Randolph and Cole counties. United Way also provides emergency and venture funding to other human service programs that meet critical community needs.
“It is my great honor and privilege to serve as this year’s Campaign Coordinator for the Boone County Employees’ 2010 Heart of Missouri United Way Campaign,” said Knight. “The Heart of Missouri United Way provides critical and essential services to many thousands of people right here in Boone County who are truly in need of help. This is a great cause that I strongly believe in and we would very much appreciate any help that the citizens of Boone County can give.”
