Things you may have missed...

County Prepares for Start of Downtown Campus Construction

On Monday, Boone County elected officials and department heads met for a pre-construction meeting with the general contractor (GBH Builders of Jefferson City), architects (Simon Oswald Architecture of Columbia) and engineers (Ross and Baruzzini of St. Louis and Trabue, Hansen and Hinshaw Inc. of Columbia) who will remodel the Roger B. Wilson Government Center and Johnston Paint Building. Construction on the $2.3 million project is set to start July 30.

Boone County Places in National Government Technology Competition

On Tuesday, The Center for Digital Government announced that Boone County placed fourth in the 2010 Digital Counties Survey. Boone County tied with Gaston County, N.C. in the 150,000-249,999 population category. Read more here.

County Officials Attend National Conference

Southern District Commissioner Karen M. Miller, Boone County Collector Patricia S. Lensmeyer and Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren will attend the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2010 Annual Conference and Exposition in Washoe County, NV. The conference, which runs through July 20, will feature more than 30 educational sessions covering current issues facing county governments; The opportunity to participate in pre-conference seminars focusing on leadership training and technology; Peer to Peer networking opportunities with colleagues from around the country; Over 170 companies featuring products and services that could save Boone County money and general sessions featuring national speakers.

Schedule a County Expert for Your Next Meeting

To provide citizens with well-informed speakers and more information about county government, the Public Information Office offers the Boone County Speaker's Bureau.

The Speaker's Bureau is an opportunity for civic groups, clubs, organizations, homeowner's associations, schools or senior groups to invite county elected officials and staff to speak at their meetings. There are a variety of topics to choose from, and topics may be tailored to meet specific needs.

To schedule a speaker, citizens can call the Office of Public Information at 573-886-4312 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Assistance will be provided to choose a topic that will be most beneficial for a particular group. Speakers must be requested at least two weeks in advance.

Boone County Fair

The Boone County Fair will take place Wednesday, July 21 to Saturday, July 31 at the Boone County Fairgrounds, 5212 N. Oakland Gravel Rd., Columbia, Mo. For more information, go to www.boonecountyfairgrounds.com.
