Things you may have missed...

County Address and Road Naming Regulations Approved

On Tuesday, the Boone County Commission approved and adopted County addressing and road naming regulations. The regulations establish standards for naming public and private roads, posting official road signs and assigning official address numbers to all addressable structures. The regulations codify county procedures that have been in place for many years. The regulations will not effect structures that already have official addresses or change already official duplicate road names.

Proposed FY 2010 Budget Available to the Public

The proposed fiscal year 2010 budget for Boone County Government is now available on the County's website at The proposed budget document includes an executive summary, an explanation of risk areas in the budget and information about county revenues and expenditures. The County Commission conducted numerous budget work sessions in September and October which led to the development of the proposed budget. As required by state law, the County Commission will hold at least one public hearing on the proposed budget before taking final action. The date and time of the hearing(s) will be announced when they are determined by the County Commission. The proposed budget can be altered and revised by the County Commission prior to adoption as they see fit. The statutory deadline for adoption is January 10, 2010. The County Commission has set a target adoption deadline of mid-to-late December. Sapp Building Covered Arena Completed

Major construction on the Sapp Building Covered Arena at the Boone County Fairgrounds was completed this week. A 300-horse show during Thanksgiving weekend will be the first event to use the new arena.

Flood Map Meeting Focused on Getting Accurate Maps

On Thursday, the Boone County Commission and staff from the County and the City of Columbia met with Gary Marble, Assistant Chief of Staff to Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer, to discuss the preliminary digital flood insurance maps that were issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The County and City are working with Marble to improve communication with FEMA and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and make sure that the most accurate maps are being created.

The Boone County Commissioners will attend the Annual Economic Outlook Conference at the Roger Trulaske Sr. College of Business on the Unversity of Missouri campus.
