Boone County Celebrates Regional Training Center Grand Opening
COLUMBIA, Mo. (January 5, 2026) - The Boone County Commission and Sheriff invite the public to join them at the Grand Opening of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Center on Saturday, January 10 from 9 a.m. until noon. The Regional Training Center is located on the Boone County Public Safety Campus at 2013 County Drive, Columbia. Members of the public will be able to tour the Regional Training Center during the Grand Opening. Sheriff’s Deputies will provide demonstrations throughout the facility and give the public the opportunity to experience hands-on training using the driving simulators and virtual reality devices.
The new facility will provide an all-in-one training center for law enforcement and first responder personnel in Boone County and across the state of Missouri. The facility design includes a 160-seat training room; a defense tactics room; an indoor tactical gun range; and a large indoor “warehouse” area for traffic stop training, scenario-based training, building search training, school resource officer training, crisis intervention training, domestic violence response training, etc.
Since 2020, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has lacked a permanent training site for law enforcement deputies. Trainings have occurred at a variety of locations throughout the county based on what was available and workable, rather than what was appropriately sized and suitably equipped. The BCSO utilized what was available to train its own deputies, as well as to expand regional training opportunities, such as K9 training for more than 40 law enforcement agencies across the state of Missouri. Despite the challenges of such training conditions, BCSO remains a Missouri leader in K9 Training, Active Shooter Training, Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), School Resource Officer Training, as well as with many other specific training courses.
The construction of the Regional Training Center not only creates a much-needed facility for BCSO deputies, but it will also allow BCSO to expand its offering of exceptional training to partners statewide, improving public safety throughout Missouri.
The University of Missouri Extension’s Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), administered and operated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, will begin its first academy in the new training center on January 5, 2026. Post-academy trainings for current law enforcement officials will begin in early January as well.
