Boone County Property Taxes Are Due December 31, 2025
COLUMBIA, Mo. (December 19, 2025) - Brian McCollum, Boone County Collector of Revenue, wishes to remind taxpayers that Boone County property taxes are due December 31, 2025. If taxpayers have not received their property tax statements or cannot locate them online, they should contact the Collector’s Office immediately. If taxpayers have yet to declare personal property as of January 1, 2025, they need to contact the Assessor’s Office and update their account. Failure to receive a bill by December 31, 2025, does not relieve the obligation to pay the taxes due and any applicable late charges that may apply. Paid receipts will be issued for all methods of payments.
Please note that the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center will be closed Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26, 2025. The Collector’s Office recommends that taxpayers choosing to mail their payments do so before Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Payments postmarked in January 2026 are considered delinquent and late charges will apply.
- The last day to pay property taxes in person at the Collector’s Office is Wednesday, December 31, 2025, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Collector’s Office is located on the first floor of the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center at the corner of 9th and Ash Streets in downtown Columbia.
- Payments may be placed in the 24-hour drop box located near the 9th Street entrance of the Government Center any time before midnight on December 31, 2025. Payments that are placed in the drop box after December 31, 2025, will be considered delinquent and late charges will apply.
- Taxpayers may also mail their property tax payments to the Boone County Collector of Revenue, 801 E. Walnut St., Room 118, Columbia, MO 65201. However, mailed payments must have a U.S. Postal Service postmark no later than December 31, 2025 – an office postage meter date does not qualify as a USPS postmark. The Collector’s Office strongly encourages taxpayers to mail their payments early and not wait until December 31 to put the payment in the mail. If payment is placed in the mail on December 31, it might not be postmarked until the next business day. The USPS postmark determines the timeliness of mailed payments. Taxpayers are encouraged to check with their local post office to determine the cut-off time for December 31, 2025, postmarks. Payments postmarked after December 31, 2025, will be considered delinquent and late charges will apply. Taxpayers are reminded to not mail cash and to remember to sign their check.
- Individuals paying taxes using their financial institution’s online bill payment system should initiate and schedule the payment to be received in the Collector’s Office at least five working days before December 31, 2025. Initiating a payment on December 31 could result in a payment being received late, at which point delinquent charges will apply. Taxpayers should reference the account number listed on their tax statement when submitting a payment.
- Payments may be made with a credit card or e-check online through the Collector’s webpage, www.showmeboone.com/COLLECTOR/, or by phone at 1-877-690-3729. Taxpayers are asked to have their bill number ready and to use the jurisdiction code 3517 for phone payments. Processing fees will apply to payments made with a credit card or e-check. Payments must be made before midnight on December 31, 2025. The experience of technical difficulties while making phone or online payments does not extend the statutory deadline to pay without late penalties and fees.
All property tax payments are due by December 31, 2025, to avoid statutorily imposed late penalties and fees.
Boone County taxpayers can contact the Collector’s Office at 573-886-4285 with questions. For more information, visit our website at www.showmeboone.com/COLLECTOR/.
