Boone County Government Offices and Departments Closed On Thursday, December 22, 2022, Due To Inclement Weather

December 22, 2022 — Due to the potential for dangerously cold temperatures and extreme wind chill, non-essential Boone County Government offices and departments will close at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022.  The Boone County Courthouse will also close at 2:00 p.m. All meetings previously scheduled to occur at Boone County buildings after 2:00 p.m. will be canceled.

The Boone County Office of Emergency Management urges residents to prepare for snow Thursday morning and dangerously cold temperatures starting Thursday afternoon. During extreme cold, residents are encouraged stay indoors and take precautions to prevent frozen pipes.  Travelers should keep a winter safety kit in their vehicle and check tire pressure and gas levels. Residents should limit the amount of time spent outside to short periods of a few minutes. If spending time outside, residents should wear multiple layers of warm clothing, a hat, and gloves, and cover their mouth to protect their lungs and stay dry and out of the wind.  Animal owners should ensure all pets are brought inside and all livestock and other animals are properly sheltered.

Residents are reminded not to call 9-1-1 unless there is an actual emergency occurring. For non-emergencies, call 3-1-1.

For additional weather information and changes in the weather forecast, please monitor local media outlets, social media, print media, and the National Weather Service.
