Boone County Government Offices and Departments Closed on Thursday, February 17, 2022, Due to Inclement Weather

February 16, 2022—Due to the potential for inclement weather and dangerous driving conditions, non-essential Boone County Government offices and departments will be closed on Thursday, February 17, 2022. The Boone County Courthouse will also be closed at that time. All meetings previously scheduled to occur at Boone County buildings have been cancelled, including the Commission meeting.

The Boone County Office of Emergency Management urges residents to prepare for the arrival of a winter storm, which is predicted to begin this evening. Although it is not currently clear how this storm may impact Boone County, there is the potential for widespread and perhaps long-term impacts with regards to power outages and restoration. Residents should take steps now to prepare for a worst-case scenario that may include loss of power for an extended period, impossible and dangerous travel conditions, and ice- and snow-covered roadways and sidewalks.

Residents should make sure they have enough food, water, medication, and, if necessary, oxygen to get through the next few days after the storm’s arrival. Residents should ensure their food supply does not require heating, microwaving, or other preparation reliant upon electricity in the event utilities are interrupted for an extended period.  In addition, pet owners should have ample food and fresh, unfrozen water for their pets.

Residents should assume travel Thursday will be dangerous at best, if not impossible.  All efforts should be made to avoid travel as all surfaces, including roadways, sidewalks, driveways, and even grass may be snow/ice covered.  Boone County Emergency Management urges residents to take action now to ensure travel is not necessary.

Residents are reminded not to call 9-1-1 unless there is an actual emergency occurring.

For additional weather information and changes in the weather forecast, please monitor local media outlets, social media, print media, and the National Weather Service.
