PUBLIC FORUM TO BE HELD REGARDING
RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS ON PUBLIC PROPERTY
December 8, 2014—A public forum about religious symbols on public property will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Friends Room of the Columbia Public Library, 100 West Broadway. The League of Women Voters is sponsoring this discussion about a constitutional issue with local ramifications.
David Lile, of Cumulus Radio, will moderate the discussion. Professor William (Bill) Fisch, who for many years taught Constitutional Law at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, will present an overview of the constitutional principles and case law in the area. Bart Tichenor, a sole practitioner in Columbia, former Chief Hearing Officer for the Missouri Tax Commission and ordained Baptist minister, and Brent Haden, a partner in the firm of Haden & Byrne, LLC, will then present opposing viewpoints about the ichthus symbol that had appeared on the Gulf War Memorial located on the Boone County Courthouse Plaza. Audience questions to the panelists will be addressed through Mr. Lile.
