Preparedness Fair

First annual Boone County Preparedness Fair. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Courthouse Plaza, 705 E. Walnut St., Columbia mOO 65201

September is National Preparedness Month and this September is the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the 5-year anniversary of the opening of the Emergency Communications Center.

The theme of this year’s national campaign is "Prepare to Protect: Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love."

About the Event

OEM is hosting a free, community-wide, Preparedness Fair on Saturday, September 11, 2021 to recognize everyday heroes in the response and preparedness fields while fostering preparedness and building resiliency in our community. This is a family and pet-friendly event from 11am to 5pm in the Courthouse Plaza in downtown Columbia. We will have food, activities, crafts, music and more!

Schedule

  • 11:00 a.m. – Opening
  • 11:30 a.m. – 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
  • 1:00 p.m. – First Raffle Prize Drawing
  • 2:00 p.m. – Tom S. Hurley Public Service Award Presentation
  • 3:00 p.m. – Final Raffle Prize Drawing
  • 5:00 p.m. – Closing

Earn Raffle Tickets

1 Ticket per item – Make a donation! Bring non-perishable food items with you to the Fair to donate to the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. Limit 5 tickets per household.

2 Tickets – Download the KOMU8 Weather App! Visit the KOMU 8 booth at the Fair to verify download and claim tickets.

3 Tickets – Download the Smart911 App! Visit the BCJC booth at the Fair to verify download and claim tickets. Be sure to complete your safety profile and opt-in to receive traffic, weather and other emergency notifications.

4 Tickets – Follow @BooneCountyOEM! Follow us on social media and post a picture of your tornado safe place, family emergency meeting location, or your emergency kit with the #AreYouReady. Visit the OEM booth at the Fair to verify and claim tickets.

5 Tickets – Get your NOAA Weather Radio programmed! Bring your NOAA Weather Radio to the Midland Radio booth to get it programmed to receive the weather warnings for our area and claim tickets.

Weather Policy

In the event of severe weather or unsafe conditions, the Preparedness Fair will be cancelled.  Follow us on social media for general event updates.  Text PREPARE to 77295 to opt-in to event-specific alerts and notifications. You will automatically be opted out at the end of the event.

COVID-19 Considerations

The Boone County Office of Emergency Management encourages everyone to follow current Boone County health guidelines.  We will have PPE stations set-up throughout the fair footprint to provide face masks and hand sanitizer for attendees to use while at the fair free of charge.
