The Shift Supervisor supervises, assists staff, and directly helps with receiving emergency (911) and non-emergency (311) calls for service, and dispatching law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of current policies and procedures, ensuring same are followed in routine and emergency operations. Documents and evaluates employee performance. Prepares written employee performance evaluations. Investigates complaints, counsels employees, and implements corrective actions when necessary. Participates in employee interviews and makes employment and promotion recommendations. Briefs, orients, and trains new employees. Monitors weather conditions and activates outdoor warning sirens and other public alert systems. Answers complex or unusual inquiries and furnishes information to public safety officials upon request. Ensures routine equipment tests are performed; identifies and reports equipment issues and failures. Assists the Operations Manager in formulating work schedules, requisitioning supplies, and establishing operating procedures. Reviews professional publications and resources to enhance professional competence and remain current on trends within the profession. Remains current and informed of all the Public Safety Answering Point's (PSAP) written directives including relevant public safety and homeland security initiatives.

Working hours: 

Varying shifts. 24/7 Operation. Must be able to work any shift at the Department's discretion.


Columbia, Missouri


Must have at least three (3) years of experience as an emergency telecommunicator or equivalent public safety related experience. Supervisor experience is preferred. Must possess a valid Missouri Driver's License. Must possess or be able to acquire within six months of hire, required certifications (e.g., ETC, CPR, EMD, EPD, EFD, MULES, CTO, etc.). Must be able to work any assigned shift, unscheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays. Must have a clear criminal record, excluding traffic violations. Must pass a pre-employment selection examination and drug screening; pass a background investigation. Must meet minimum qualifications set forth by the FBI and MSHP CJIS Security policy.

Salary Range: 

$22.37 - $33.55 per hour with additional $1.00 per hour shift differential, and additional pay for overtime and holidays worked.
