Boone County Master Plan Process Begins
May 25, 2023 – The development of a new Master Plan for Boone County is underway. For the first time in nearly 30 years, Boone County Government will undertake a master planning process with the intention of developing a vision for our communities and establishing countywide priorities for future growth and land use planning.
In the years since the current Boone County Master Plan was adopted in 1996, the county’s population has grown by 60,000, an increase of approximately 50 percent. According to the 2020 Census, Boone County was one of the fastest growing counties in Missouri over the last decade.
To accommodate future population and employment growth in ways that enhance the quality of life of Boone County residents, it is important to coordinate land use policies, transportation and infrastructure improvements, municipal and county services, and preservation of natural resources. This is the goal for the County’s new Master Plan, which will help to guide growth and development over the next 10 to 20 years. A master plan serves as a policy guide for future land-use decisions, transportation, protection of the natural environment, community services, and coordination of infrastructure.
On March 5, 2023, the Commission approved a contract with the i5Group, a planning and consulting firm based in St. Louis, to lead the county in this effort. Beginning this spring, the i5Group will assist with examining demographic, employment, housing, and other trends, in coordination and consultation with our communities, residents, agencies, utilities, businesses, organizations, and service providers.
