Boone County Selected to Attend Disaster Training

June 28, 2017 - Boone County has been selected to attend the Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland during the third week of November. Boone County was one of twelve communities selected and one of only three to be offered the course at the Maryland location.

Boone County was selected after an exhaustive application process completed by the Office of Emergency Management. 75 members of the response and recovery community, including local elected, senior supervisors and non-government officials, will be invited to attend this four-day training event. The training will combine classroom lecture, small group planning sessions, as well as an exercise portion to expose those attending to simulated disaster and recovery events as each participant would during a real event.

According to Terry Cassil, Director of Boone County Emergency Management, this training will "create an opportunity for collaboration across our community by bringing together response agencies, elected officials, and non-government partners in a setting that creates a dialog, builds relationships and fosters learning"; Cassil added "this training team is a very well respected and long standing entity that really produces the highest caliber training in the nation". Boone County is scheduled to attend during the week of November 13.

The cost to attend the training includes only the time of those attending as well as a required meal voucher for each attend. Travel is reimbursed through FEMA and lodging is provided on site at no cost to any member of the Boone County delegation. Mr. Cassil explained "the cost associated with attending this training is minimal, especially when compared to the benefit, which is tremendous. Boone County is fortunate to have been selected and looks forward to ensuring our entire community is prepared for any incident."
