January 12, 2017

Due to the potential for inclement weather and dangerous driving conditions, all Boone County Government offices and departments will be closed on Friday, January 13, 2017. The Boone County Courthouse will also be closed at that time. All meetings previously scheduled to occur at Boone County buildings have been cancelled.

Boone County Government offices and departments will be closed, regardless of weather conditions, on Monday, January 16, 2017, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Offices are anticipated to reopen on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

Originally released on 1/11/17 by Boone County Office of Emergency Management:

The Boone County Office of Emergency Management urges residents to take steps now to prepare for an expected winter storm's arrival on Friday. Citizens should make sure they have enough food, water, and medication to get through the next few days after the storms arrival on Friday. In the event of a power outage residents should have food on hand that does not require cooking.

Although it is not currently clear how this storm may impact Boone County, there is the potential for widespread and perhaps long term impacts with regards to power outages and restoration. Residents should take steps now through Thursday evening to prepare for a worst case scenario that may include loss of power for an extended period, impossible and dangerous travel conditions and ice covered roadways and sidewalks.

Preparations should include an adequate food, water and medication supply at their residence. In addition, pet owners should have ample food and fresh, unfrozen water for their pets. Residents should ensure their food supply does not require heating, microwaving or other preparation reliant upon electric utilities in the unlikely event this service may be interrupted for an extended period.

Citizens should assume travel Friday and Saturday will be dangerous at best if not impossible. All efforts should be made to avoid travel as all surfaces including roadways, sidewalks, driveways and even grass may be ice covered. Boone County Emergency Management urges residents to take action now or before Thursday evening to ensure travel is not necessary.

Residents are reminded not to call 9-1-1 unless there is an actual emergency occurring.
