Boone County accepting Request for Proposals for Courthouse Plaza Renovation Project

On Friday, March 16, 2012, Boone County began accepting Request for Proposals (RFPs) for landscaping services for the Courthouse Plaza Renovation Project. RFP responses will be accepted until 5:00pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. The RFP was developed through a collaborative effort involving representatives from Boone County, the Boone County Courthouse, the Historic Avenue of the Columns and The District. The project is being funded by capital improvement funds, voter-approved sales tax moneys which were specifically allocated for capital improvements such as renovations and building construction. Boone County welcomes public comment on renaming of the Boone County Fairgrounds

The property currently known as the Boone County Fairgrounds is in need of a new name and the Boone County Commission is asking the public for their comments. The Boone County Commission is proposing to rename the Boone County Fairgrounds to Central Missouri Event Center, Home of the Boone County Fair, which was proposed by Mike Teel and Brent Gibson, owners of TAG Events, LLC which is the current contracted manager of the Boone County Fairgrounds. A public hearing was held during the regularly scheduled 9:30am Commission meeting on Tuesday, March 20. An additional hearing will be held during the Commission's meeting at 7:30pm on Tuesday, March 27, after which all comments will be considered and a decision will be announced. Hinkson Creek TMDL Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 28, 2012

An open house will be held at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC), Room A from 4:00pm-5:30pm on Wednesday, March 28. Hosted by federal, state, county, city and University of Missouri officials, the event will focus on an innovative, cooperative partnership to carry out a pollutant reduction plan to restore Hinkson Creek's water quality. Attendees can visit informational stations on water quality and partnership topics from 4:00-5:15pm. Remarks will begin at 5:15 with MC Karen M. Miller, Boone County District Southern District Commissioner. Speakers include Karl Brooks, EPA Region 7 Administrator; Sarah Parker Pauley, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources; City of Columbia Assistant City Manager Tony St. Romaine; Boone County Presiding Commissioner Dan Atwill; and Missouri Department of Natural Resources Assistant Director for Science and Technology Joe Engeln.
