THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED...

Legislative Lunch: On Monday, Boone County elected officials hosted a luncheon with Boone County's legislative delegation. The purpose of the lunch was to discuss the County's legislative priorities for the 2010 session. The priorities are the same as 2009, with the exception of five new items.

Food Permit Hearing: On Tuesday, the Boone County Commission held a public hearing on the proposed food service inspection fee. At the current time, the City of Columbia/Boone County Health Department is not recouping any costs associated with the state mandated inspections. The proposed fees will cover an estimated 50 percent of the cost of the inspections. The proposed fee is annual and based on facility risk assessment and annual gross receipts of food sales. The fees are proposed to be due on or before June 30, 2010 and would be paid to the Boone County Collector.

Happy Tails and Food Bank Holiday Donations: On Friday, Boone County announced the results of its Happy Tails Animal Sanctuary and Central Missouri Food Bank drives that began December 7. County employees raised $547 for Happy Tails along with two boxes of pet supplies. Two barrels of food items were collected for the Food Bank.

Engraved Tiles Available: The Boone County Commission office is taking orders for engraved quarry tiles that will be placed on a wall in the Courthouse Square (near the corner of Eighth and Walnut). The tiles are 4X8 and can be engraved with names, titles, birth dates, or any appropriate inscription. All proceeds go to the Miscellaneous Courthouse Square project fund. Employee Passes Certification Exam: Daniel Haid, a civil engineer for the Boone County Public Works Department, has passed the professional civil engineering test. A civil engineer must work as an apprentice for four years before taking the exam. Haid will now be able to seal engineering documents and take legal responsibility for his designs.

Bid Opening: The Boone County Commission will open bids for the County Squire Sanitary Sewer Neighborhood Improvement District (NID) Tuesday, December 22 at 9:30 a.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Roger B. Wilson Government Center, 801. E Walnut, Columbia, Mo.
