Things You Might Have Missed...
Update on Sheriff's Annex: On Tuesday, the Boone County Commission awarded the bid for the Sheriff's Annex and Warehouse project to Little Dixie Construction, LLC. The Commission also approved the $1.63 million budget for the project. The Sheriff Annex and Warehouse will provide storage for election equipment and evidence. It will also be used for training deputies.
In the past, the County has rented space for storage, but a recent increase in rent prices prompted the County to build its own facility. The project is being paid for through Recovery Act bonds, the Sheriff Civil Charges Fund and money from the General Fund that would have been spent on rent. In 10 years, the County will own the building and expects to see savings from $60,000 to $70,000 a year.
County Budget Approved: On Tuesday, the Boone County Commission approved Boone County's fiscal year 2010 budget. The County has worked to make cost reductions without reducing service levels. However, due to negative sales tax growth and the reduction of other revenues, the County will be using reserves for the third year to close the gap between revenues and expenditures.
