OPENINGS FOR CITY/COUNTY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

Board of Parks Commission

This is a voluntary board charged with making recommendations for maintaining and enhancing public parks for which Boone County is responsible. This does not include parks under the jurisdiction of the City of Columbia. The commission is comprised of 11 members: One County representative and one representative from each of Boone County's 10 townships. The board meets the second Tuesday, bi- monthly in the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center, Room 220. Term – 4 years.

Four interim vacancies representing Bourbon Township expiring 9/30/2009, Centralia Township expiring 9/30/2011, Three Creeks Township expiring 1/1/2011, and Katy Township expiring 2/13/2012

Building Code Board of Appeals

Ten member Board with one being from each township in Boone County. At least four of the ten members shall be a licensed professional engineer or architect, or a contractor representing one of the building trades, or superintendent of building construction, and there shall not be more than two members of the board selected from the same profession or business; and at least one of the professional engineers shall be a licensed structural or civil engineer or have architectural engineering experience. The Board reviews requests for a variance from the provisions of the Building Code. The Board meets on call. The representation for this board must be in the architecture/construction areas. Term – 5 years

Five, 5-year vacancies representing Bourbon Township expiring 1/1/2013, Centralia Township expiring 12/31/2012, Cedar Township expiring 1/1/2013, Katy Township expiring 1/18/2015, and Three Creeks Township expiring 6/10/2013.

Building Code Commission

Eight member Board and one County Commissioner which meets on call. The Board reviews construction code requirements and advises the County Commission on specific aspects of the Building Codes.  Term – 2 years

                                   Judicial & Law Enforcement Task Force

A seven member board comprised of non-stakeholder citizens. To study available resources and to create a plan to maximize the effective long-term use of the Boone County Jail, the Courthouse and the Sheriffs Office, while meeting the needs of Boone County for continued, quality law enforcement and a balanced budget. The Task Force meets on call. Term - 3 years

One, three-year term vacancy expiring 4/10/2013

Environment & Energy Commission

Four County appointees. Monthly meetings are the fourth Tuesday of each month on the 3rd floor Daniel Boone Building at 7:00 p.m. The Commission serves in an advisory capacity in all matters pertaining to environmental protection and assists in the planning of environmental improvements. They also assist in the promotion and stimulation of public interest. Term - 3 years

Mental Health Board

Board consisting of not less than nine members; no more than one-third shall represent service providers; at least one-third shall be consumers or families of such consumers; include one physician; at least one-half of the board shall be individuals who are not providers of health care. This board may, in conjunction with county government, place on the ballot a Mental Health Mill Tax without a petition process. The Board meets the second Monday of each month at 4:15 p.m. at the Boone County Government Center. Term – 3 years

Planning & Zoning Commission

 

Ten member Board to include one citizen from an unincorporated area of each Township in Boone County and the County Engineer. The Board meets the second Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for a work session and the third Thursday at 7:00 p.m. for a regular meeting every month. Special meetings may be called as needed. All meetings are held in the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center Chambers. The Board advises the County Commission on matters of land use. (Term - 4 years)

Road & Bridge Advisory Committee

Voluntary committee consisting of thirteen members selected as follows; Public Works Director, County Commissioner, Representative from Planning Department and ten Boone County Citizens. One Boone County resident of the unincorporated area of each of the ten townships will be selected. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Roger B Wilson Boone County Government Center Chambers. Term – 4 years

One 4-year term vacancy for Bourbon Township expiring 2/02/2012
One 4-year term vacancy for Centralia Township expiring 6/30/2010

Senior Board

A voluntary committee consisting of ten members, one from each township. This board coordinates and monitors the changing needs of seniors, and looks for new methods of funding their needs. This board deals with the full scope of senior issues and looks for model programs in the United States that would set standards for our county. Anyone interested in “senior issues” may apply to this board. The Board meets the second Wednesday of every other month at 1:00 p.m. at the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center , 801 E. Walnut, Room 245. Term – 4 years
