Boone County Commission to Dedicate New War Memorial

May 12, 2016

The Boone County Commission will dedicate the new War Memorial during a special ceremony on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 10:00AM. The ceremony will take place in the Boone County Courthouse Plaza at the site of the War Memorial. The VFW Honor Guard will attend the dedication ceremony, which will be emceed by Boone County Treasurer Tom Darrough.

The new War Memorial expressly recognizes the service of all veterans in the Cold War, Southwest Asia (which includes Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm), and the Global War on Terrorism. It also recognizes individual veterans from those conflicts who were Boone County residents and who died as a result of enemy action. Veterans recognized on the War Memorial at this time include Patrick Kelly Connor and Steven Paul Farnen, both of whom gave their lives in service to their country in Operation Desert Storm, and Sterling William Wyatt, who gave his life in service to his country in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Anyone who knows of a family member eligible to be listed on the Memorial under these criteria may contact the County Commission for further information.
