March 16, 2012
March 16, 2012— Beginning Friday, March 16, 2012, Boone County Purchasing will be accepting Request for Proposals for landscaping services for Courthouse Plaza Renovation. Proposal Responses will be accepted until 5:00pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
Over the past several months, a committee comprised of individuals representing Boone County Government, the Boone County Courthouse, the Historic Avenue of the Columns, and The District gathered to discuss past and present uses of the Courthouse Plaza, positive and negative aspects of the current layout and possible changes to improve the area. Groups that have used the area in the past were contacted in order to learn what the area was used for, what was good about the space and what could be improved. The committee consulted with Steve Saida from Columbia Parks and Recreation to learn from their experiences with similar spaces, Bruce Nelson from Nelson Audio to get information about sound and acoustic needs and capabilities and Jane Accurso from First Night Columbia to get firsthand information from one of the biggest users of the Courtyard Plaza. Additionally, a survey was conducted amongst Boone County employees working in the Boone County Government Center, Annex and Courthouse regarding past and present usage, reasons for choosing to use or not use the area and to gather ideas for ways to improve the Plaza.
Based on the information gathered and many discussions, a Request for Proposal has been written and released by Boone County Purchasing. There are many aspects of the RFP, including creating a more welcoming environment, expanding the green space and increasing the ability of the space to accommodate a variety of activities.
Requests for Proposals are available through the Purchasing Office, located in the Boone County Annex at 613 E. Ash, Columbia, MO 65201 or online at www.showmeboone.com/purchasing.
