Things you may have missed...

Health Department Wants Citizens' Feedback on Eating and Activity

The Columbia-Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is conducting a survey to find out what factors influence Boone County citizens to make changes in their eating and activity. Those who participate in the survey will be put into a drawing for a gift certificate. The survey is available at www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=FtLgorZ7xRARXMkZaN03kQ%3d%3d.

Government Center Renovation Goes Out to Bid

On Thursday, the Boone County Commission opened bids for the Government Center Renovation project. The budget for the project is $3.1 million. Many of the bids received came in under budget. The Boone County Purchasing Department will evaluate the bids and the contract will be awarded in an upcoming Commission meeting.

East Area Plan Public Meeting

The City of Columbia and the Boone County Planning and Zoning Commissions will host a joint meeting regarding the East Area Plan (EAP), formerly called the East Columbia Area Plan (ECAP), May 25, 2010, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Columbia Benevolent Organization’s Meeting Hall located inside the Elk’s Lodge, 4747 Elk Park Drive East (east of Cedar Grove Elementary School off State Route WW).

Early Childhood Summit

Boone County’s third annual Early Childhood Summit will be held Wednesday, May 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the MU Stotler Lounge. This year's keynote speaker is George Lombardi, Director of the Department of Corrections. He will explain why law enforcement officers believe that high quality early childhood programs help reduce crime. The panel of responders includes Columbia Superintendent of Schools Chris Belcher, Regional President of Commerce Bank Teresa Maledy, and Police Chief Ken Burton. City of Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid and Boone County Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson will do introductions. The event is free and open to the public.

Free parking will be available in the Hitt Street and University Avenue garages from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The MUPD ask that you put a copy of the flyer on the dashboard.
