Georgian Delegation Visits Boone County: On Monday, Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson participated in a panel discussion on governmental cooperation and gave a delegation from the Republic of Georgia a tour of the Roger B. Wilson Government Center. The tour was part of the Open World Program which gives participants from Eurasia and the Baltic States an introduction to United States federal, state, city and county government. The City of Columbia and Kutaisi, Republic of Georgia have been sister cities since 1997. The delegation met with Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren and learned about Boone County's election process. As part of the program, County Auditor June Pitchford was a panelist for a session on public finance. The delegation visited Columbia, Boone County and Jefferson City during their weeklong visit which was organized by Columbia's Public Communications Office.

Public Works Prepares for Snow: On Tuesday, the Boone County Public Works Department took a proactive approach to getting ready for winter with their annual Dry Run Day. Discussing snow routes and inspecting the snow plow trucks were among the activities for the day. The staff also got an overview on how the department's new Global Positioning System (GPS) technology will be used for documentation during snow events. November Declared Homeless Youth Awareness Month: On Tuesday, the Boone County Commission declared November to be Homeless Youth Awareness Month with a proclamation presented by Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson to Sol House, a service of Rainbow House, at the Daniel Boone Regional Library. Last year, the National Runaway Switchboard received 2,562 calls in Missouri from homeless/runaway youth, and 230 of those calls were within the (573) area code. Every month, Rainbow House is contacted by at least ten local youth who have been abused or kicked out of their home. The Commission encourages citizens to strive to protect Boone County's youth and make every effort to empower young people to make healthy choices and become productive members of our community.

There will be a $100 prize for first place, with second and third receiving a $50 prize. The first place winner's art teacher will receive $200 towards art supplies to be used in the classroom.
