Boone County "Week in Review"

For week ending November 7, 2009

Columbia, MO (November 6, 2009)

THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED...

Addressing and Road Naming Regulations: On Wednesday, the County Commission reviewed Boone County's proposed regulations for addressing and road naming. The proposed regulations establish standards for naming public and private roads, posting official road signs and assigning official address numbers to all addressable structures. The proposed regulations codify county procedures that have been in place for many years. The Planning & Zoning Commission conducted hearings on the proposed regulations. The regulations will not effect structures that already have official addresses or change already official duplicate road names. The County Commission will adopt these regulations in the near future.

Missouri Economic Development: On Thursday, Mike Downing, Deputy Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, gave Boone County elected officials and department heads a report on economic development issues for Missouri in 2009. Downing's lecture focused on ways to spur economic development both statewide and locally, such as creating new jobs and retaining existing jobs, offering higher incomes, increasing the tax base and providing a higher quality of life.

Commissioners Speak to Community Groups: On Thursday, Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson and Southern Commissioner Karen M. Miller spoke to community organizations about county issues. Pearson gave a presentation about the 2010 Census at the Downtown Rotary club luncheon and Miller gave a "State of the County" address at the Sunrise Rotary meeting.

If you would like a commissioner to speak at your organization's meeting, please contact Jessica Sapp at 886-4305 or by email at jsapp@boonecountymo.org.

Roadway Striping Completed: This week, a contractor for the Public Works Department applied new yellow center line and white edge line markings to several Boone County paved and chip sealed roads. Railroad crossing marks were also painted on roadways. Roadway striping is done each Spring and Fall.

Personal Property Tax Bills: 2009 property tax bills are now available online at www.showmeboone.com/collector for viewing and may be paid online, by phone or in person.
